It is no longer just the US and Europe where large, international poker tournaments take place. Other parts of the world including Asia, South America and Africa are seeing more and more poker events taking place on their soil. April 13th saw the start of the Australian New Zealand Poker Tour Sydney (ANZPT) with the AUD $ 2,200 no limit hold’em main event offering big prizes to the winning players. The event was won by Michael Kanaan who became the ANZPT Sydney champion of 2011. He took away with him the title and $195,714 in winnings. His aggressive play really paid off and the Australian was absolutely delighted to have won such an important event.
It took very little time for Kanaan to bring home this win. The 9 remaining players sat down at the final table at 12.30pm local time. By 5.10pm the tournament was over and the winner crowned! It was a real whirlwind event but incredibly exciting to watch.
The final table payouts were as follows:
1st Michael Kanaan (Australia) - $195,714
2nd Luis Arrilucea (Australia) - $124,581
3rd Andy Lee (Australia) - $69,168
4th John Karroobee (Australia) - $54,234
5th Alex Lee (Australia) - $43,230
6th Stevan Chew (Australia) (PokerStars Qualifier) - $35,370
7th AJ Bertenshaw (New Zealand) (PokerStars Qualifier) - $27,510
8th Mike Stecker (United States) (PokerStars Qualifier) - $21,615
9th Jay Kinkade (Australia) (PokerStars Qualifier) - $15,720
The ANZPT has by no means been concluded, with the next stop being at Jupiters Casino on the Gold Coast from May 17 - 22. Here players can take part in the $2500 ANZPT Gold Coast main event for another chance at bringing home a huge prize and of course the glory of winning a large, international event. We look forward to the next event taking place in May. If you want o qualify for similar events, you can do so by playing through one of our free poker money offers.
